Pink Breakfast

The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation and Weight Watchers have joined forces to invite all New Zealanders to hold a Pink Ribbon Breakfast during the month of May - the month for mums.

The purpose of the occassion is to celebrate the importance of our mothers, raise vital funds for breast cancer education and research, and to also be reminded that healthy lifestyle choices have a big impact on a person's health.

You can help raise money by holding your own Pink Ribbon Breakfast for family and friends, anytime in May, wherever you choose - in your home, the local park, a café or your workplace. The choice is yours!

Tips for planning your breakfast:

Kick start your event by planning well and setting up a personal check list, e.g.

  • Venue – home, café, park etc
  • Date – weekday or weekend
  • Time – breakfast, brunch or other
  • Invitation – email or post, followed up with a phone call
  • Catering – you as chef, caterers or guests bring a plate
  • Theme – Pink or other ………
  • Decorations – balloons, ribbons, pink everything!
  • Entertainment – music, games etc
  • Speaker – someone you know who has been touched by breast cancer
  • BBQ – check with friends who may be experts

Brainstorm

If you are planning on inviting a larger group, two heads are better than one! Decide who you need to help plan your special event and ensure you cover off everything so that the breakfast will be a winner for you and The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

The link between breast cancer and weight*
Research shows that making simple healthy lifestyle changes – with losing weight a top priority – is the best way to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer.

Women who lose at least 4kg between the age of 30 and 50 have a 40% reduced risk of breast cancer while women who lose at least 4kg after the age of 50 cut the risk by 25%.
