The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF) is a not-for-profit, non- government funded charitable trust and is totally reliant on grants and donations. Grants and donations to The NZBCF are received from:

  • Trusts and Foundations
  • Corporate Sponsors
  • Donations from the New Zealand public
  • Community events held nationwide
  • NZBCF fundraising initiatives and special events including the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal 

WHERE OUR MONEY GOES

New Zealanders are often interested in what their grants and donations to NZBCF go towards. The money we receive helps to fund the following programmes and activities.


Breast Health and Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Programmes

  • Free nationwide breast health and breast cancer seminars
  • Free corporate, workplace and group seminars
  • Free public breast cancer forums - delivered by top national and visiting international medical experts
  • Educational resources - booklets, brochures, one page fliers, The NZBCF website and the Pink Ribbon Press newsletter
  • Nationwide multi-media campaign

Research Grants

  • The Foundation's Research Grant Programme/Fund offers annual grants to New Zealand-based research projects to further improve breast cancer survivorship.


Medical Grants

  • NZ Breast Cancer Registers - databases on those diagnosed
  • Scholarships to foster the NZ workforce of the future:
    • Radiation Therapists
    • Mammographers
  • Medical Education and Development for NZ Health Professionals - postgraduate training related to breast cancer
  • Medical equipment - such as digital mammography machines Breast Cancer Conferences and Forums

Community Outreach Grants

 

The Foundation provides funding and administrative support to a number of organisations which help women (and men) recovering or dying from breast cancer.

  • Pink Pilates -  physiotherapy rehabilitative 1 on 1 exercise programmme
  • ywca Encore -  rehabilitative group exercise programme
  • Dragon Boat Teams
  • Sweet Louise an exceptional programme which aims to provide a more positive experience for the hundreds of New Zealand women living with life limiting breast cancer

  • Assistance to other breast cancer interest groups

Advocacy

  • The Foundation plays a significant role in ensuring breast cancer is highly profiled. Key issues that arise are picked up on and support given as required. An important aim is to influence those who make and fund policies on the management of breast cancer in NZ. With 1 in 9 NZ women diagnosed with breast cancer in the course of their lifetime, families, friends and communities are affected
