In 2004, so as to foster the growth of the breast cancer medical workforce in NZ, The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation launched a scholarship programme for Undergraduate Radiation Therapists and Postgraduate Medical Imaging Technologists (Mammography). The Foundation has continued to grow the scholarship programme so to further support Radiation Therapists and Medical Imaging Technologists academic and clinical training within the field of breast cancer in New Zealand. 2010 will see the programme in its sixth year, and scholarships of over $300,000 will have been granted.
Radiation Therapist Scholarship Programme
In 2010, The Foundation is offering a total of eight individual scholarships for Stage I students commencing The University of Otago's Bachelor of Health Science (Medical Radiation Therapy) degree. The value of each scholarship is $7,000, and will be awarded to students who are assigned to work with a radiation oncology clinical provider in the Auckland (3), Wellington (1), Palmerston North (1), Christchurch (1), Hamilton (1) or Dunedin (1) areas respectively.

Medical Imaging Technologists (Mammography) Scholarship Programme
For 2010, The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation is offering a total of eight individual scholarships for students commencing study towards and attaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science (Mammography) at Unitec NZ (ScHSc). Eight scholarships will be available in the 1st Semester; however, if eight are not awarded in the 1st Semester, the remaining scholarships will be awarded in the 2nd Semester.
The funding available for each NZBCF Scholarship recipient is $3,000 for a FULL scholarship and $2,400 for a PARTIAL scholarship. The NZBCF Scholarships will be composed of: - a FULL Scholarship of $3,000 each for students commencing the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science (Mammography) at Unitec NZ (ScHSc). The courses to be completed and passed are: HEAL 8020 (30 credits) and HEAL 8008 (30 credits) or - a PARTIAL Scholarship of $2400 each for students commencing upgrading to the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science (Mammography) at Unitec NZ (ScHSc). The courses to be completed and passed are: HEAL 8020 Upgrade (18 credits) and HEAL 8008 (30 credits).
The pre-requisite course is HEAL 7168 (L7) Mammography; this course must have been completed within five years of employment in post-graduate studies.

The application closing dates were on Friday 5 February 2010 (1st Semester) and Friday 9 July 2010 (2nd Semester).
