Northern Districts cricket is tickled pink by the success of its latest promotional campaign with even the most hardened fans appearing to lap up the new strip.

Parker Smith, left, from New York, with a pink-haired Johan Bardoul of Matamata, and pink-faced Frank Adams, also from New York, at yesterday's Northern Knights-Canterbury Wizards Twenty20 match at Seddon Park, Hamilton.

The Northern Knights are wearing pink uniforms for the domestic Twenty20 competition this summer as part of the association's campaign in support of the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

Captain James Marshall had told the Waikato Times in June, when the strip was adopted, that he had expected "a bit of stick" over the colour choice but chief executive David Cooper said support from fans had been overwhelming.

The fans have quickly taken to the pink push, with ND home games notable for the number of pink-wearing fans throughout the crowds.

"It's fantastic the number of people that have come in pink and purchased pink merchandise.

"It's something the players have commented on too - they've really noticed the pink being worn in the crowd for support."

Fans have been able to purchase pink jandals, pink caps and pink singlets though the replica playing shirts sold out very quickly.

Make sure you check out the TradeMe auction for Peter McGlashon's autographed wicket-keeping pads - they've been signed by every player he's played against during the entire HRV Cup domestic Twenty20 cricket competition. Make your bid now!
